The Hopeful Existentialist: Vi (she/her/they)

Hi. My name is Vi and I am a queer, intersectional feminist, existential, eclectic, somatic informed, trauma informed and holistic based therapist.
As a holistic therapist, I believe in incorporating techniques to help growth on:
the psychological level,
the emotional level,
the somatic (physical) level,
the human ( aka spiritual/existential) level (i.e. values, meaning, spirituality, etc.)

As an existential therapist, spirituality is often discussed and/or incorporated from a non-religious context. The context of spirituality is based upon your own beliefs and meaning regarding what you believe and value.
During the screening and intake process, we can discuss any questions you may have regarding any of the concepts regarding therapy and my therapy style.

Definitions for Psych Terminology

What is Imposter Syndrome?
Imposter syndrome may feel like you don’t belong in different spaces, although you may have obtained the necessary credentials and qualifications for your designated profession.
It is often related to having high self-doubt, feelings of "not being enough", and/or feeling like you are not deserving of your achievements. Many people report feeling like they will be "found out" by others that they don't belong.

What is Perfectionism?
Expecting high outcomes of your performance, skills, expertise, work, or other characteristics, often at the cost of your well-being.
This often involves having high self-criticism, fear around completing tasks and/or fear around making mistakes or not having things exceed high expectations.
You may experience periods of shut down, burnout, procrastination, and avoidance at different times.

What is a Cycle Breaker?
A cycle breaker is often a common term used to mean a person who recognizes harmful traits, behaviors, thinking styles, patterns, characteristics, ways of relating, and/or abusive dynamics in their family system, community, religious circles/church, or other groups, that they do not want to be a part of nor continue.
This often involves sometimes having to distance oneself, and/or one's family, from different environments or relationships due to the harmful patterns and dynamics.
Many people often have feelings of guilt, shame, isolation, grief, loss, and a range of many emotions. It is common for individuals to question many beliefs and perspectives, regarding what they may have previously ignored, tolerated, "normalized", or "pathologized".
Many people may struggle with parts of their identities, self-esteem, past experiences, internalized abuse, and negative beliefs about the world, self and others.
Cycle breakers often are seeking to work on healing while understanding their past and present.
Many cycle breakers are also trying to figure out their authentic values, what they consider to be "healthy", and how to move forward.

The Land Back Movement

Land Back is the name of a movement to rightfully return land back into the hands of Indigenous and Native peoples. This would allow for Native and Indigenous peoples to be able to care for and guide these land ecosystems, using sophisticated, nourishing, rejuvenating and restorative indigenous and native land stewardship practices. Returning land into the care of Indigenous/Native people would lead to many benefits including but not limited to: water protection, land protection, and the cultivation of biodiversity, which are all essential for the future of humanity. (This is a brief explanation for more info and resources click here.)
A Brief Historical Note (This is not a full history)

The United States of America was founded upon genocide, White supremacy, brutality, oppression, and other colonial practices. Genocidal colonization and colonization practices also occurred by countries, such as but not limited to: the United States of America, England, and Spain (among others). These colonizing countries utilized cultural, spiritual, psychological, and physical genocides, in the attempt to destroy Native/Indigenous, African, Latin(x), Arab/Middle Eastern North African (MENA), Indian peoples, and other peoples. These genocides include their customs, cultures, languages, ways of life, and religions, through many diverse acts of harm, cruelty, and other forms of oppression.

The forced removal of Native Indigenous children resulted in extreme harm to Native family systems, the murder and death of countless children and adults, the loss of cultural practices and spirituality, and tremendous intergenerational trauma. There have recently been many investigations opened into the atrocities committed against the Indigenous and Native peoples. If you would like to: follow Indigenous and Native creators, read about these investigations, learn about historical articles and recent events, and donate to causes that support Indigenous/Native and other marginalized peoples, click on this link. Decolonizing as a White Euro-American

Decolonizing as a White person in a White supremacy-based society, for me personally, means continuously learning and deconstructing history, ideologies, and many other dynamics. Decolonizing as a White person also means continuously being self-aware of your own capacity and ability for harm, while simultaneously holding yourself accountable and reckoning with your actions, thoughts, and mindsets. This also means working to repair, heal, make things better, and to work toward collective liberation for the individuals and groups who have been harmed and impacted historically and interpersonally.
Land Acknowledgement

I acknowledge that the land on which I practice and call home, in addition to other territories in the United States, belongs to the ancestral and traditional territories of Indigenous and Native peoples including but not limited to the Kiikaapoi/Kickapoo, Jumanos, Wichita, Nʉmʉnʉʉ Sookobitʉ/Comanche, Apache, Tonkawa, and Tawakoni peoples. Texas is the native land of indigenous peoples such as the the Caddos, Hainais, Anadarkos, the Cherokee, Creek, Seminole, Waco, and Kickapoo.
